4 Common Bra Types for Adolescents

Amongst the many emotional and physical changes that adolescent girls go through, starting to develop breasts is a major one. And this stage is the right time for you as a parent to step in and educate them about the common bra types available for them. It is important to get the right fitting bra that does not dig into their skin or hang loosely around their breasts. Use a measuring tape to check the band and cup sizes for your teenager correctly before shopping for a bra. Encourage her to try out different styles and allow her to decide which is most comfortable. Here are some common bra types adolescents should know.

1. Training bra
This is the basic type of bra for teenagers. Not padded and not wired, these lightweight bras are comfortable to wear. These are simply an addition to regular clothes. Bralettes, as they are also known, are for girls who have just started developing breasts. They should be purchased depending on the band size.

2. T-shirt bra
Comfortable and practical, the t-shirt bras are most ideal to wear under regular t-shirts or any skin-fit fabric because they are seamless and do not show through the clothes. Designed with smooth and invisible cups, they provide a natural, rounded shape for teenagers even figure-hugging tees. They come in both wire-free and underwired options. Newer designs are available in both low-cut models and in full-coverage styles to suit different outfits.

3. Sports bra
For active, energetic teenagers, a sports bra is one of the most common bra types. Helping them focus on the exercise or sport they are training for instead of being conscious about how they look while running or jumping around, the sports bra is created just for this purpose. Providing both comfort and support when they are playing a physical sport, the sports bra also protects developing breasts. They come in many styles, the regular and racerback, to name a few.

4. Everyday bra
As the breasts develop, moving on from a training bra to an everyday bra is advisable. Soft fabrics with or without lace detailing, sweat-absorbent materials, separate cup designs, lightly padded or non-padded and non-wired bras, there are many designs of everyday bras that give a smooth look. They also provide the necessary coverage and support under all regular clothes. Available in a variety of colors and patterns, everyday bras are a fun addition to the wardrobe. They are generally made in white, beige, and black colors to suit ordinary clothes. Make sure you check and buy the right size for your teenager every 6 to 12 months. Stretchy fabrics, enough coverage, solid straps, and multiple hooks and eye closures are the typical characteristics of everyday bras.
